Singer-composer Fernando Lameirinhas' (1944) has been influenced by the experiences in his life. Born in the Portuguese city of Porto, he and his family were forced to leave in 1959 for political reasons, resettled in Belgium and later moved to Amsterdam. In the 60s and 70s, Lameirinhas made a name for himself in the soul and pop groups Jess & James and Sail/Joia, with hits like Move and Amsterdao. He developed a ecclectic musical style of his own, which could be described as a very personal approach to the Portuguese fado and blues, influenced by jazz, the Cape Verdean morna, as well as the Brazilian chorinho and samba cançao. His music, entirely self composed, is a synthesis of his different musical origins. It evokes emotion and touches the hearts of his audience in the Portugese tradition, woven together with lilts of jazz and blues, and intense rhythms making his music very much his own. Lameirinhas' music is enriched by the five members of his ensemble. Each one adds a particular flavor originating from their musical roots of Argentina, Uruguay and the United States.
