Changana (Cuba)

F
or the international fan community, the Son de Cuba may be eternally beautiful, but Cubans themselves aren't impressed by standstill. With this set the island proves it has more to offer than just nostalgia. DJ Joyvan is 26 years old and one of the pioneers of Latin-Techno-House electronic music in Cuba. The Master of the Havana rave has recently opened a joint platform with timbales specialist Williams Richard to reinforce his club nights with some fine percussion. Williams studied classical percussion at the National School of Arts and since 1990 has been performing at a wide array of festivals, from Montreal to Berlin. With their innovative house mix, interspersed with bits and pieces ranging from Louis Armstrong to classical rock, the two of them have become kings of the raves along Havana's famous Malecón boulevard.
