Polo Montañez was born in the mountains of Pinar del Rio in Cuba, west of Havana, a long way from the city. He worked a lot and he walked a lot. While he was walking he made up melodies and songs. In the end - before he gave up his job cutting timber - he had composed 79 songs, enough to make a living in the nearby deluxe hotel. And since Polo is the most romantic man in western Cuba, his biggest source of inspiration came from one of the smallest words: love. He has fallen in love a few times, so a few - or maybe a few more - of his songs are dedicated to women. When he starts singing of them in his gravely voice, far removed from any kind of technology, he is quite simply irresistible. Thus he became number 1 in the whole country, and the salseros and timbalistas of Havana still cannot believe why and how it happened.
