The Center for Black Music is a franco-Brazilian project devised and executed by Mondomix, produced by Carlinhos
Brown (Pracatum/Janela do Mundo) and Mondomix with the support of the State Government of Bahia, the Brazilian
Ministry of Culture and Culturesfrance.
Mondomix Media
Created in 1998, Mondomix.com is today the first media on line for the world music and culture. Bilingual media (French and English), updated daily, with more than 40.000 pages of multimedia contents, Mondomix is recognized by UNESCO and the press professionals. Mondomix is the international reference concerning the musics and cultures of the world on Internet.
Mondomix, it is also a free bimonthly magazine, distributed in France in 100.000 press copies.
Mondomix produces and edits audiovisual and multimedia programs (music DVDs, short programs and documentaries for television).
Specialist in both world music and the development of multimedia productions, such as the music pavilion for the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool, Mondomix is responsible for the creation of the Centre for Black Music, in collaboration with the Museu do Ritmo, Janela do Mundo, the Culture Department of the State Government of Bahia and Culturesfrance.
Museu du Ritmo
The Museu du Ritmo, a space open to all types of culture and art, was opened in 2007 by the artist Carlinhos Brown. Housed in the old Gold Market in Salvador, the Museu du Ritmo is a cultural activity Center and concert venue, as well as an information technology training Center for underprivileged communities. Currently under development, the Museu du Ritmo is set to become Salvador’s main cultural Center. The key ambition of the Museu du Ritmo is to improve local residents’ quality of life by developing community projects, assisting in both processes of social integration and the creation of employment opportunities, particularly for the youngest members of the community.
Janela do Mundo
Specialising in the field of culture since 2007, Janela do Mundo is a marketing company that focuses on creating and managing content, communication strategies and content distribution. Carlinhos Brown rely upon Janela do Mundo, which is responsible for his image, the communication and the marketing of his products, as well as his artistic career.
Pracatum
The Pracatum Social Action Association was created by Carlinhos Brown around four themes: “education, culture, social mobilisation and urbanisation.” A non-profit civil society organisation, Pracatum’s mission is to improve the quality of life for the residents of the community of Candeal by developing community projects and educational and cultural programs. Since 15 years, Pracatum builds medical facilities and opens professional schools and musical training centers.
