Museu du Ritmo

Museu du Ritmo was created by the artist Carlinhos Brown in 2007. Its objective: to offer a space dedicated to all types of culture and arts. The site takes part in the restoration of Cidade Baixa (low city), port area formerly center of the town of Salvador. The Museum of Rythm houses in the old Gold Market (Mercado do Ouro), an architectural estate of the 19th century, protected by the Institute of Historical and artistic heritage (the IPHAN), and presents artistic projects in the fields, among others, of music, theatre or also fashion. The place is set to become Salvador’s main cultural Center.
This project, currently under development, is a cultural activity Center and concert venue, as well as an information technology-training Center for underprivileged communities, like those of the district of the “Pilar” located in the same geographical area.
These actions aim to promote the history and the culture, but also to encourage flowing of tourism. They will be an economic source of revitalization for the area by creating jobs and incomes.
Integrated in the Museo du Ritmo, the Center for Black musics will benefit with the permanent dynamism of this cultural centre.
